Testing aerodynamic properties of road windscreens

Hrvoje Kozmar, Lorenzo Procino, Gianni Bartoli, Alessandra Borsani

Abstract

The wind tunnel testing of aerodynamic properties of road windscreens, aimed at determining an optimum windscreen form for Hreljin and Bukovo viaducts on the Rijeka - Zagreb motorway, is presented. The system called PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) is used to measure velocity of air flow. Test results obtained by testing made at Bukovo Viaduct are presented for various air-flow angles: horizontal angle is 0° and vertical angle is 10°, and the air turbulence intensity is taken to be 17%.
