Analysis of domes and cylindrical walls

Srečko Pičulin, Ivana Mekjavić

Abstract

A brief historic overview of realized thin concrete shells, cylindrical walls, and domes, is given. The theory of thin shells as applied in the analysis of interaction between the dome, ring and wall, is presented in order to compare such results with those obtained through analysis according to the finite-element method. It is emphasized that the results obtained by the finite-element method have proven to be very reliable, and so this method can be recommended for the design of such types of structures.
