Valorization of dredged dam sediment as partial cement substitute in pervious concrete

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical and hydraulic properties of pervious concrete made with calcined dredged dam sediments (CDDS) as a partial cement replacement. Three calcination temperature scales were considered (700, 750, and 800 °C), for each temperature scale three incorporation rates of (CDDS) were adopted (5, 10, and 15 %), with a single water to cement ratio (E/C) of 0.36. The effects of the (CDDS) calcination temperature and its substitution rate on the compressive strength, flexural strength, water permeability, and porosity were evaluated. The results revealed that pervious concrete containing 10 % of (CDDS) calcined at a temperature of 750 °C shows a notable enhancement in compressive strength with acceptable permeability coefficient recommended for pervious concrete.
