Nonlinear analysis of the welded girder-pier connection

Abstract

The nonlinear numerical simulation has been conducted by the finite-element method to determine behaviour of laboratory samples of welded girder-pier connections. The results obtained by this simulation have been compared with laboratory testing results. A very good correspondence of results has been established until the zone of high nonlinearity. A more detailed laboratory testing of mechanical properties of the weld is recommended, and the results of this additional testing should be included in the numerical model.
